It's kind of funny if you interpret it as the grandfather having to come up with all of this on the spot because the kids were bored of hearing about Link and Hyrule, though. The story feels a little tossed off, though it's nice that the game gets started immediately I suppose, with how infamous Zelda intros can be. It's arguably harder than Zelda usually is. This is slightly odd because I would say overall this is not targeted at a younger audience, but Zelda veterans. The writing is a little more childish than Zelda, though it has its moments of adventure game-esque black comedy. It helps it avoid feeling too much like any particular game, which was a problem Environmental Station Alpha ran into where every area and even the look of it was straight from Zebes, and the plot was heavily inspired by Fusion. ![]() It most resembles The Minish Cap or maybe Link's Awakening at a glance, but it pulls ideas from nearly every 2D Zelda, and a bit from the 3D ones as well. ![]() You can tell the developers looked closely at the whole series, too. This also then would give us an explanation for what connects Hyrule and the Rare Island Chain - another Grand Tome. At the start of the game, he is about to tell them the story of an "elf boy" who saved the kingdom of "H-" but gets cut off, but they want to have a different story because they've heard that one loads of times before, so he starts telling them about the Blossom Kingdom instead. I started playing the first Blossom Tales in preparation for this and after the first mini-dungeon, I have a very good initial impression and I think it would be an ideal game for Yooka and Laylee specifically to show up in.īoth games have a framing device of an old man telling a story to his children. ![]()
